INVESTIGATION OF THE EFFECTS OF TWO NONPHARMACOLOGICAL METHODS; USİNG PACIFIERS AND MATERNAL HOLDING, ON PAIN OF NEONATES IN THE OUTPATIENT CLINIC AND NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT

Introduction: The most important purpose in neonatal pain management is to minimize the felt by newborns and help newborn cope with pain. This study planned examine effects of two non-pharmacological methods, using pacifiers or maternal holding, on neonates’ admitted outpatient clinic (OC) hospitalized Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Material Methods: Ninety (30 used pacifiers, 30 holding,30 control) who applied OC 60 NICU were prospectively included this study. Infant Pain Scale (NIPS) was evaluate behavioral responses perception. Physiological parameters their durations crying also evaluated. Results: When NIPS scores analyzed group during after procedure, lowest score found (p<0.001). As for patients, both be significantly lower pacifier users It observed that giving mathernal holding had positive physiological duration patients (p<0.05). No significant difference between group. Conclusion: showed procedure blood sampling decreased score, restored changes crying.
